Nook uses an account — your email or phone, or your Apple or Google sign-in, plus a name and the interests you pick — stored so you can sign in. That's the only personal data we hold: no analytics, no trackers, no ads, and nothing sold. Your location stays on your device, calendar access is write-only, and you can delete your account and everything tied to it right in the app. The details are below.
Information we collect
To use Nook you create an account — with your email and a password, with your phone number, or by signing in with Apple or Google — and you choose a username, your name, and a few interests. We store this on our backend so you can sign in and so the app can show your profile. That is the extent of the personal data we hold — we include no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, no advertising identifiers, and no third-party trackers, and we do not build an advertising profile of you.
Verifying your account
During sign-up we send a one-time code to confirm your email or phone. Email codes are delivered through Resend, our email provider; phone codes are delivered through Telegram Gateway. If you continue with Apple or Google instead, that provider handles the sign-in and shares your basic profile — your name and email, though Apple can hide your email behind a private relay address — with us. Signing in with Apple or Google is optional. These are used only to create and secure your account.
Location
If you grant location permission, your location is used on your device to center the map, show events near you, and sort them by distance. It is never transmitted to us or to any third party, and it never leaves your phone. Location is optional — you can decline it, and Nook still works; you'll just browse the map manually.
Calendar
When you add an event to your calendar, Nook writes a single entry — the title, time, place, and details — into the Apple or Google calendar you choose. This access is write-only: Nook cannot read, list, or modify anything already in your calendar.
Event content
The events you see come from a curated data source and are cached locally on your device so the app works offline. When an event page shows a photo or opens an external link, that content is loaded from the third party that hosts it, and their own terms and privacy practices apply to that request.
Sharing your data
We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't hand it to advertisers. We share it only with the service providers that make the app work — our backend stores your account, Resend delivers your email codes, and Telegram Gateway delivers your phone codes — plus Apple or Google to sign you in when you choose them. We share it only for those purposes, and we may disclose data if the law genuinely requires it.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from the profile screen in the app. Deleting it permanently removes your profile and every record tied to it — your sign-in methods, sessions, and any pending verification codes — from our backend. This can't be undone. If you need help, reach us through Support.
Children
Nook isn't directed at children and contains no objectionable content. Creating an account requires a valid email address or phone number.
Changes to this policy
If Nook's behavior ever changes in a way that affects your privacy, we'll update this page and revise the date at the top. Meaningful changes will be reflected before they take effect.
